Darjeeling Tea Health Benefits

Darjeeling is a black tea grown in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains and has a light, subtle aroma and scent when brewed. Darjeeling tea leaves are rolled and then oxidized, or fermented, before being ready to use.

Darjeeling tea is generally considered safe, but no minimum effective amount that benefits your health has been determined.

The tea also contains caffeine, generally about one-half the amount in a cup of coffee, or 40 to 70 milligrams in an 8-ounce serving, depending on the strength of the tea.

For some people, too much caffeine can make sleeping difficult, cause feelings of nervousness or increase heart rate.

Limit your intake of caffeine if you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, or opt for decaffeinated versions of Darjeeling tea.

Adding milk to your tea might also reduce its effectiveness of its antioxidant compounds, according to recent studies.

Darjeeling tea contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, potassium, magnesium and manganese.

Black and green tea may reduce the formation of dental cavities through several mechanisms.

First, tea inhibits the growth of Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria responsible for tooth decay.

Tea can also prevent the adherence of the bacteria to the surface of the teeth. Green, black and white teas contain potent antioxidant compounds called polyphenols.

Antioxidants reduce cellular damage that can lead to cancer. Although most cancer research has focused on green tea, black tea contains the same compounds at similar levels and is presumed to create similar beneficial effects.

This tea appearing light coppery shade of brown but amusingly named black is capable of warding the flu virus. “To boost your fight against the flu: Drink black tea.”

That is what has been advised by researchers on tea. People who gargled with a black tea extract solution twice or thrice a day showed a higher immunity to flu virus.
