Casaba Melon Health Benefits

Casaba melons are a round, bright yellow fruit with a slightly wrinkled skin. Seeds are easy to scoop out. Has a sweet pure flavour, easy to add flavours to neutral sweetness.

Casaba melons are an excellent source of vitamin C, a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of potassium.

While it is native to Asia Minor, casaba is grown commercially in South America and in the South-western United States, particularly California and Arizona.

This fruit gets its name from Kasaba, Turkey, whence it was imported to the United States in the late 19th century.

Like other melons, casaba is typically served raw on fruit platters or in a fruit salad.

Melon is effective in reducing both your body temperature and blood pressure.

Many people in tropical regions eat this fruit every day in the afternoon during the summer to protect themselves from heat stroke.

In India, you will find the fruit being sold by vendors in almost every street during the summer season.

The good amount of potassium and magnesium that is present in watermelons is very beneficial in terms of bringing down blood pressure.

Potassium is considered a vasodilator, meaning that it releases the tension of blood vessels and arteries, thereby stimulating increased blood flow and reducing the stress on the cardiovascular system.

The carotenoids present in these fruits also prevent hardening of artery walls and veins, thereby helping to reduce blood pressure and the chances of blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, and atherosclerosis.

When harvesting, make sure that the melon is cut from the vine instead of pulled.

Pulling creates a cracking wound that pathogens can enter and quickly destroy the quality of the fruit, not to mention ruining the appearance of the fruit.

Leave the stems on the melon for as long as possible, and treat for stem end rot after picking.
