Thyme Oil Health Benefits

Thyme is a common herb and is generally used as a condiment or spice. The oil is extracted through steam distillation of fresh flowers and leaves.

Thyme essential oil contains antispasmodic, antirheumatic, antiseptic, bactericidal, bechic, cardiac, carminative, cicatrisant, diuretic, emenagogue, expectorant, hypertensive, insecticide, stimulant, tonic and vermifuge properties.

Thyme essential oil also tones up the circulatory system, heart, digestive system, nervous system, muscles, and skin while fortifying them and boosting immunity.

Those who are suffering from an accumulation of water in the body due to chronic renal failure or from growing concentration of toxins and salts in the blood are sure to benefit from this essential oil.

It increases urination and helps in the removal of excess water, salts and toxins from the body. This helps reduce weight, lower blood pressure, reduce fats and improve digestion as well.

Women are always searching for something that can give them relief from obstructed and painful menstruation, irregular periods and premature menopause.

They have found their answer in this oil. It opens obstructed menses, gives relief from the symptoms like abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, depression and low blood pressure that is associated with menstruation.

It can also delay menopause, thereby keeping women healthy, happy and fertile.

Thyme oil is used as a germ-killer in mouthwashes and liniments. It is also applied to the scalp to treat baldness and to the ears to fight bacterial and fungal infections.

In vapour therapy, thyme oil can be helpful with bronchitis, coughs, respiratory problems, sinusitis, mucus congestion and muscular aches and pains.

Thyme oil strengthens the nerves, aids memory and concentration, can help with the feeling of exhaustion and combats depression.

Stir 8 drops of the oil into a salve or cream or add them to a cup of water and soak a cloth in it to make a compress.

It is also useful for treating gum and mouth infections, such as thrush (Candida). You can make your own mouthwash by adding three drops of thyme essential oil to 1/4 ounce tincture of Oregon grape root and 3/4 ounce water.

Thyme essential oil should not be used with pregnant women or children. Thyme does destroy intestinal worms, but the essential oil should never be taken internally.
