Peanut Oil Health Benefits

Peanut oil is the oil extracted from the seed, also called the nut, of the peanut plant. Peanut oil is commonly used to make medicine. Peanuts are believed to be originating in Central American region from where they spread to other parts of the world by Spanish explorers.

Peanut oil is sometimes applied directly to the skin for arthritis and joint pain, dry skin, eczema, scalp crusting and scaling without hair loss, and other skin disorders that cause scaling.

The oil is available in refined, unrefined, cold pressed, and roasted varieties, the latter with a strong peanut flavour and aroma, analogous to sesame oil.

Peanut oil has a high smoke point relative to many other cooking oils, so is commonly used for frying foods.

It is a vegetable oil that is naturally Trans fat-free, cholesterol free, and low in saturated fats. Peanut oil is high in unsaturated fats, especially monounsaturated fat, like olive oil.

It is also a source of the antioxidant, vitamin E and phytosterols, which benefit heart-health.

Peanut oil contains resveratrol, a polyphenol antioxidant, which has been found to have protective function against cancers, heart disease, degenerative nerve disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and viral or fungal infections.

Peanut oil is high in calories. Its high-calorie value is because of fatty acids.

Nonetheless, the oil is especially rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) like oleic acid that helps to lower LDL or “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good cholesterol” in the blood.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that also protects every cell in your body by neutralizing free radicals that damage cells and contribute to your risk of certain cancers and heart disease.

Peanut oil has been used throughout Asia for years. In fact, most Chinese restaurants in the U.S. use peanut oil exclusively in the kitchen.

The high caloric content of peanut oil can make your otherwise low-cal dish very high in calories if you’re heavy-handed with your drizzle.
