Dill Tea Health Benefits

Dill tea is made from the dill plant like its seed or leaves; dill is an annual aromatic plant with a special therapeutic value. Dill contains substantial amounts of iron, manganese and calcium.

It also contains flavonoids which are powerful antioxidants with anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.

Dill tea has a sweetly pungent, cooling feeling and it is sharp after taste and has a heavy and lasting flavour.

Dill tea offers relief in cough, cold and flu. Its seeds are believed to benefit various digestive problems.

The seed essential oil may relieve intestinal spasms and griping.

This kind of tea is suitable for infants against colic or other ailments such as cough, flu, indigestion, gas, stomach-ache or insomnia. It also stimulates milk production in nursing mothers.

It is also diuretic and antispasmodic and can be used with success for treating haemorrhoids, jaundice, scurvy, diarrhoea, dysentery or respiratory disorders.

A cup of dill tea will aid in relief of menstrual cramps, or even as preventative.

This is particularly true if the cramps are associated with stress.

Dill is used for digestion problems including loss of appetite, intestinal gas (flatulence), liver problems, and gallbladder complaints. It is also used for urinary tract disorders including kidney disease and painful or difficult urination.

Dill does not contain any cholesterol and is low in calories. It is a good addition to weight loss diets because it contains vitamins and dietary fibers which further help to bring down the levels of bad cholesterol in the body.

Dill has long been known as an anti-inflammatory herb, meaning that it helps to reduce the inflammation and the associated pain of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and arthritis. Dill has been used since ancient times for precisely this reason.

Pour boiling water over 2 teaspoons of dill weed for each cup you wish to prepare, and let it sit for 15 minutes, or longer for maximum benefit, then strain. You may prepare several cups in advance, keep it in the fridge, and warm up as needed.
