Blueberries Health Benefits

Blueberries can be described as the fruits of a shrub that belong to the heath family. They grow in clusters and range in size from that of a small pea to a marble. Blueberries are a rich source of vitamin C; one serving gives you almost 25 percent of your daily value.

Vitamin C helps collagen formation and also maintains healthy gums as well as a healthy immune system. They are also a good source of antioxidants, and can be eaten raw, cooked with other foods, or dried for use in tea.

Blueberries can prove to be beneficial for the cancer patients, for they contain certain compounds like Pterostilbene (excellent remedy for colon and liver cancer) and Ellagic Acid which, in harmony with Anthocyanin and other anti oxidants like vitamin-C and copper, can do miracles to prevent and cure cancer.

Blueberries have also been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease, reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure, protect against stroke and reduce oxidative stress.

Blueberries also contain compounds called polyphenols, specifically, a category of polyphenols called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins, which give blueberries their rich purplish-blue pigment, are thought to provide much of blueberries’ antioxidant power.

Among the polyphenols found in blueberries, resveratol appears to be one of the most significant. Resveratol is a potential anticancer agent that has been shown to reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease.

Regular consumption of blueberries is guaranteed to give you a stronger, healthier, happier heart.

This fruit is also good for the skin; many of the vitamins in blueberries may neutralize or normalize oil levels in your skin, making it healthier and less likely to accumulate sebum.

A diet high in fat and carbohydrates can also encourage skin aging, so blueberries prevent aging by providing you with many needed nutrients while providing very low levels of fat and cholesterol.
