Arjuna Herb Health Benefits

Terminalia Arjuna bark herb is used by doctors who practice Ayurvedic healing. The bark of Arjuna is useful as an anti-ischemic and cardio protective agent in hypertension and in ischemic heart disease, especially in disturbed cardiac rhythm, angina or myocardial infarction.

It also has a tonic effect in cases of cirrhosis of the liver. It induces a drug-dependent decrease in blood pressure and heart rate.

It has been reported to possess protective cardiovascular and hypolipidemic properties.

It reduces the level of triglycerides and cholesterol and has been reported to enhance the synthesis of LDL-apoprotein.

It inhibits the oxidation of LDL and accelerates the turnover of LDL-cholesterol in liver. This enhances the elimination of cholesterol from the body.

The bark of Terminalia arjuna has been used in India for more than 3000 years, primarily as a heart remedy.

An Indian physician named Vagbhata has been credited as the first to use this product for heart conditions in the seventh century A.D.

Research on terminalia has been going on since the 1930s, but studies have provided mixed results. Its role, if any, in heart disease still remains uncertain.

The full side effects or adverse events of arjuna herb are not well known and it is preferable to limit dosage use to the least amount that works.

There is a possibility that very high dosages could cause liver harm or reduced thyroid gland activity.

It is often difficult to interpret studies done in rodents to what would happen in humans when a much smaller dosage is used as a supplement. High dosages could cause increased body temperature.

Certain herbs and spices curb inflammation in the body, which may give rise to heart disease and cancer.

For example, antioxidants in cinnamon have been linked to lower inflammation, as well as reductions in blood glucose concentrations in people with diabetes.
