Angelica Oil Health Benefits

Angelica essential oil is extracted from the plant Angelica archangelica of the Umbelliferae family. It is considered a native plant of northern and eastern Europe, as well as parts of Asia and the Soviet Union, and is found in Scotland, Holland, Lapland and Germany.

The oil is extracted from the roots, rhizome and seeds and steam distillation is employed to achieve this.

The therapeutic properties of angelica oil are antispasmodic, carminative, depurative, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, hepatic, emenagogue, expectorant, febrifuge, nervine, stimulant, stomachic and tonic.

The relaxing effect of Angelica Oil is beneficial in driving out gas from the intestines. This relaxes the intestinal and abdominal muscles and lets the gases pass through a downward motion, which is much healthier than letting them build up and push upwards on the torso.

This gives immense relief from troubles related to excess gas, such as indigestion, stomach aches, headaches, cramps, flatulence, nausea, and high blood pressure.

This oil also triggers the opening of obstructed menstruation and makes it more regular. As a bonus, one gets relief from the other symptoms associated with periods as well, such as headaches, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.

Two drops of angelica seed oil added to 20 ml (4 tsp) base oil together with a few drops of eucalyptus, niaouli or cajuput oil is good for coughs and colds, either warmed and rubbed on the torso every morning, or added sparingly to the bath.

If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, consult a health-care practitioner prior to use. Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after applying product.

Do not take any essential oils internally without consultation from a qualified aromatherapy practitioner. Do not apply undiluted essential oils, absolutes, CO2s or other concentrated essences onto the skin.

Use extreme caution when using oils with children and give children only the gentlest oils at extremely low doses. It is safest to consult a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using essential oils with children.
